My little sister Alicia came out to visit the East Coast for the first time in September. Adam and I picked her up from the airport and headed for Acadia National Park with a couple of short stops to see the lighthouse in Portland and take a stroll on the beach in Hampden, NE.
Once in Acadia we spent the first day wandering around Bar Harbor and setting up camp. Ad cooked us chicken sausages on the rocks above Thunder Hole while we listened to the booming water and watched the sun go down. After a campfire we went to bed determined to wake up in time to catch sunrise and pick blueberries on top of Cadillac Mountain. This is the first place in the US that the rising sun hits every morning.
Next day we went on a hike and had a rock skipping contest. We attempted a long bike ride but Adam's tire blew out after about 3 miles so the bike ride turned into a long walk back to the car. We drove around the island to visit the lighthouses and I went for a swim in the most calm, pristine lake.
Yes that is a laptop under Adam's arm.
Next day we went out for a canoe trip and paddled until we thought we wouldn't make it back because all of ours arms were too soar. We explored a little island and hung around with some ducks that lived by the lilly pads. The weather was gorgeous blue skies and 60 degrees in mid September. We had lunch at Jordan Pond and Alicia tried lobster for the first time. Adam ate lobster bisque soup and then dipped butter in the butter broth. Mmmm....
The final day was a rush to Boston to try to show Alicia as much as we could in one day. We got caught up in an Italian Saint's procession in little Italy and had some clam chowder in Faneuil Hall. Then watched part of a Visa commercial beinf filmed and wandered the Boston common. We also found time to go to Harvard and Fenway as well as complete the freedom trail walk with all of its historical landmarks. I think this picture sums up how much fun Alicia had on her 3-4 days trip to the east Coast:
