After a full day of rain we woke up on the beach to a beautiful sunrise with a clear day ahead. The drive is green Elysian hills dappled with cattle, sheep and flightless birds. We hiked through a rainforest to get to a small waterfall that had the quintessential swimming hole at its base, but we decided to hold out for the hot water beach.
At low tide you can run out to hot water beach and dig a hole in the sand that will fill with hot water due to geothermal activity underneath the ocean in that particular place. We arrived just in time to burn our hands and feet digging holes that were quickly covered up by the rising ocean. An English tourist was laughing at us and ended up being a great friend to meet in our first days. He was on his way out of the country and so he generously gave us his maps, coupons and tourist info. What luck!
